Who We Are:

Roy and Beverly Stevens

Artistic U is owned and operated by Roy and Beverly Stevens. Roy Stevens bas been an International Artist and Art Teacher for many years both in America and in Europe, and, he and wife and partner, Beverly have traveled the world together and settled in Port St. Lucie, Florida eleven years ago where they have owned and operated several other businesses. Artistic U has been designed by them to encompass a wide diversity of creative arts training for both children and adults with classes being offered in top-quality instruction. Roy's formal art training began in his youth at the prestigious Art and Design Institute in New York City and continued with many very accomplished artists/teachers throughout the United States and Europe.

Professionally, he has taught, lectured, demonstrated, had gallery shows, and conducted private training and workshops in the United States and in Europe–notably in Spain, Italy, England, Portugal, the Canary Islands, and aboard many cruise ships such as Royal Viking, Norwegian, and others too numerous to mention, and he and Beverly have made six crossings from the U.S. A. to Europe. In addition, some of his background includes "Therapeutic Art" as he has worked with many mentally and physically handicapped children and adults within hospitals and institutions and has even taught people to paint with their mouths, their heads, and their feet. Roy has also taught many show business celebrities and his paintings have been on display in numerous exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe and are represented in many private collections.

As an artist, he structures his passages in such visual terms as Pattern, Transition, Harmony, Tone, Rhythm, and Color, drawing his subjects from his extensive teaching and travels. He is known for having developed his famous "Four-Step Guide to the Magic of Acrylic Painting."

Roy also brings Encaustic Wax Painting to Port St. Lucie and thus offers a very exciting new concept in creative expression which brings very instant rewards to the student and which enables students to complete their paintings in one session.

Roy and Beverly Stevens invite you to join them in exploring and expressing your creative imagination and in shaping and supporting the creative thought processes and imaginative expressions of children and adults.

Terry Wood

My name is Terry Wood, and I've been an artist my entire life.

Originally from Connecticut, I studied Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, and Wax Art at the University of Connecticut, University of Hartford School of Art, Norton Gallery Art School, and have continued to
invent myself as an artist by way of private study and workshops.

I have exhibited, often earning numerous awards with a one-woman show of my Acrylics, Pen and Inks, and Wax Paintings, many of which are in private collections.

After being introduced to Encaustic Wax, I realized I'd fallen in love with the journey into a new world of Wax Art.

Inspired by nature, my paintings are not only visually pleasing, but also interesting, with subtle and vivid colors dancing to a flowing rhythm. In many, I have combined wax and metal—finding that the softness of the wax and hardness of the metal compliment one another.

I hope my art stirs the realm of the viewer's imagination and evokes a feeling for the spirit from which each piece evolved.

Teaching Specialties: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Acrylics, Pen and Ink, Wax Art.

Mission Statement:

Why teach art?

The intrinsic values of art education are fundamental to the development of a productive, creative human being. Therefore, a sound, successful teaching program in this creative field is the birthright of every child.  There is nothing like good teaching and the start a new project. It's wonderful when there is someone there who can offer possibilities, give direction, answer questions, keep the student focused and on track.  When the student is able to confer with more than just one teacher, they can benefit from the fresh observations and ideas each instructor has a to offer.

At Artistic U we endeavor to represent a broad spectrum and diversity of mediums because we take a holistic view of our students, adults and children, and we feel a tremendous responsibility to help shape the whole creative process of thinking and imagining and building a vitally- important foundation in children which will be the springboard of the future adult who has become a self-confident creative problem solver with the courage to grasp the opportunities of following their imperative to creatively and successfully shape a healthy world with healthy opportunities for those whose lives lie within it.

Instruction

Roy Stevens Teacher

1. ACRYLIC PAINTING—

I am known in the field of Acrylic painting as the acrylic artist and teacher who developed the "4-Step Guide to the Magic of Acrylic Painting."  My step-by-step instructions will enable the beginner and artist to attain delicate variations of form, light and dark, control, and contrast.

The "Magic" also entails working with a deck of playing cards, broccoli, and other ordinary household items. Now, you will add your own personality, style, and goals to what you will have learned by taking this course. My course runs continuously so there is no real beginning or ending as regardless of your experience or lack thereof, I work with the class as a whole and at the same time I work with the individuals in the class based on their specific levels and needs. This is a continuous course.

2. ENCAUSTIC WAX PAINTING—

Encaustic Wax Art is a very exciting and versatile medium which enables people of all abilities to release their creative potential. It is a great release for the imagination and is extremely therapeutic. As a beginner, you do not need to know what to do; you just need to start doing and then enjoy what happens. You will find an adventure awaiting you that will take you on a journey through the images you produce. You will embark on a creative process that is fresh every time. Encaustic Wax Art can be a "never-ending story." This is a continuous course. Come and enjoy with us!

Brief Descriptions of Art Forms We Teach:

Acrylic PaintingPainting images on a surface using paint containing Acrylic resins.  This is a water-soluble, fast-drying paint which makes the work-in-progress less fragile, dry and completed more quickly, and brushes and work areas are cleaned more easily than when using oil-based paints or dyes. With Acrylic painting, the necessary investment of time to achieve a finished painting can be greatly reduced over art work created with other paints.  For more information about  Acrylic painting, please go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylic_Paint

Drawing (Pencil, Color Pencils )Creating a picture, likeness, diagram or representation, usually written on paper with a writing instrument instead of a brush. Drawing is the act of defining (or delineating) the outlines of a figure against a background, using any of a wide variety of tools and techniques. It generally involves making marks on a surface by applying pressure from a tool, or moving a tool across a surface. Common tools are graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax color pencils, crayons, charcoals, pastels, and markers. Digital tools which simulate the effects of these are also used. An artist who excels in drawing is referred to as a draftsman or draughtsman.  For more information about Drawing, please go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drawings

Encaustic Wax PaintingPainting images with a wax-based paint which is fixed in place by heating with a special iron. It is possible to create a dry, completed, beautiful, original wax painting in a matter of minutes.

Palette Knife PaintingA painting technique where a small, edgeless, more-or-less flexible blade is used to mix paint on a palette and to apply paint to a canvas, paper. or other surface to create images either alone or in conjunction with a paint brush.  To see a picture of a Palette Knife, or "Painting Knife," please go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palette_knife

Stamping (Ink)A form of art whereby images are transferred to surfaces by use of a rubber stamp and colored inks.

Therapeutic ArtThe process of either using an art form to ease or improve the "human condition" or a method devised by the teacher to enable a physically, mentally, or psychologically-challenged person to achieve an artistic project. For example, teaching a physically-challenged person to paint with their mouth, their feet, or their head or using art training to stimulate the minds and improve the manual skills of Down's Syndrome and other mentally-challenged children and adults.

Wax StampingCreating Wax Paintings using artistic rubber stamps to apply an image to the target surface. The two techniques offered are transferring the image in ink and then adding the wax painting to the ink images or transferring the images using colored wax and then adding more wax painting to the resultant images to achieve the finished wax painting.
